Image use authorisation & acknowledgement of risks

Version 3.92 of November 6, 2026

A. Image

The academy takes images — photographs and video — during classes, seminars, competitions and events, and publishes some of them. The authorisation is given freely: refusing has no consequence whatsoever for my attendance at classes or my progression.

I may withdraw this authorisation at any time, in whole or in part, by a message to privacy@kaizen-bjj.be, without having to give reasons. The academy then stops any further publication and removes from its website the images of which I am the subject. For posts already published on its social media accounts, as for large group photographs, a removal request is considered case by case. Withdrawal has no effect on printed copies already distributed or on copies already made by third parties. Images are used solely to present and document the activity of Kaizen BJJ Brussels; they are not sold or assigned to third parties for commercial purposes, the authorisation gives no right to any payment, and the academy undertakes not to publish anything that harms my dignity, my reputation or my private life. Separately, a portrait is taken when I enrol so that the instructors can identify me and learn my name: that use does not depend on this authorisation and rests on the academy's legitimate interest — see points 2 and 7 of the privacy notice, kaizen-bjj.be/privacy/. If I authorise publication above, it is that same portrait that appears on the website.

B. Risks of the practice and undertakings

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a grappling combat sport: close and continuous physical contact with a partner, with training fights of varying intensity. As in any contact sport, a risk of injury exists and cannot be entirely eliminated. I acknowledge having been informed of this. I practise voluntarily and it is up to me to make sure I am fit to do so. That risk is greatly reduced by measured practice, attention to one's partner and observance of the instructors' directions: that is the purpose of the undertakings below.

I undertake to:

  1. follow the instructors' directions at all times on the mat and stop an exercise at their request;
  2. tap early, as soon as a technique is locked in and I can no longer escape, without waiting for pain, and release instantly as soon as my partner taps, says so or stops responding;
  3. adapt the intensity to the level, size, age and condition of my partner, particularly with beginners, minors and people returning from injury;
  4. keep to the techniques permitted for my rank and age category, and spar only under the direct supervision of an instructor;
  5. report before class any injury or limitation, observe the academy's hygiene and safety rules, published at kaizen-bjj.be/rules.html#rules (kids classes: kaizen-bjj.be/rules-kids.html#rules), and abstain in case of a potentially contagious skin lesion;
  6. not train under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or any substance affecting alertness;
  7. respect people and premises — no violence, no harassment, no discrimination, no intimidating behaviour — and use the techniques taught only in training and competition, save in lawful self-defence.

Failure to observe these rules may lead to exclusion from a class and, in the event of serious or repeated breach, to the end of my participation in the academy's activities.

This section is an acknowledgement of the risks inherent in the practice and an undertaking to observe the safety rules. It involves no waiver of my rights: under Belgian law it neither limits nor excludes the liability of the academy, its instructors or its staff in the event of intentional fault, gross negligence, or a breach causing harm to life or physical integrity.
